Personal Injury solicitors Gowing Law have a series of TV commercials featuring Michael Owen. In the ads he appears as a TV pundit reviewing his accident. They’re pretty fun and a light hearted look at a serious subject, while also having a tongue in cheek laugh at his own injury woes.
I provide the voiceover of the end credit on all 3 commercials. You can see the ads for yourself below.

The shortlist for the One Voice Awards have been revealed and I’m pleased to say that my name appears not once but twice! I’m nominated in the category for “Best Radio Promo Voiceover Performance”. Which is particularly exciting as radio imaging is the area of voiceover I first got started in way back when. The audio I submitted was a short compilation of work voiced for Nation Radio in Wales and produced by Devaweb.
The second nomination I have received is a little more offbeat, in “Best Outtake Of The Year”. Now clearly this is for work which has never really seen the light of day. Of course 99% of the time everything runs like clockwork, scripts are rehearsed and delivered without incident. Occasionally a script catches you out, when I had to voice a commercial for the “Cock Inn”, well that’s all you need to know.
One Voice Conference
The One Voice Awards are part of an exciting new conference for voiceovers later this year in London. It’s called the One Voice Conference and takes place in the Docklands area of the city. Based on the American voice over festivals it promises to bring together voiceovers to learn about a variety of subjects. Plus great networking and social opportunities too of which these awards are a part of.
It’s the brainchild of one of Britain’s most well known voiceovers Peter Dickson (X Factor and more) and Hugh Edwards, a casting director and producer. Together they also run Gravy for The Brain, a site dedicated to supporting and educating voiceovers at all stages of their careers.
It’s a Thursday evening, the rain is hammering on the windows as well befits July in the UK. Before I head off to bed to dream of whatever comes to mind this time (The other day I dreamt I accidentally torched a local tourist attraction) I have just had a quick look at the stats for this website.
It’s really interesting reading actually and fascinating the amount of information that our friends at Google collect. I can tell you things like are you reading this on a desktop computer, or a phone? Are you using an Apple device, or a Windows machine? Let me tell you on that score it is bad news for Bill Gates, as only 4% of visitors to my website use one of those, it’s all Apple and Samsung here it seems!
I also know which town you’re in, the colour of your front door, the names of your pets, and just what is in the top drawer of your bedside table. Ok, maybe not quite that much, but you get the idea of just how much some of the mega corporations we buy from must know about us, cos well they know what you buy and where you live for starters..
So, to the title question
Within all of this information Google have sent me is a list of search terms that people have entered into Google, and have subsequently clicked onto my site based on that. Sure you get all the voiceover terms you’d expect, but there was a bit of a curveball in there. One of the most common terms sending people to me over the past month has been “who is the voiceover for the We Buy Any Car advert”, referring to the WeBuyAnyCar.com series like this one…
Lots of people have been searching Google for the answer, and as people frantically search voiceover websites to work it out a fair few have headed here. If you’re one of them, welcome along, I have good news for you..!
In case you’re wondering, the voiceover for the We Buy Any Car commercial is not me (unfortunately), however to help you sleep easier tonight and to save you further searching, you will find the answer to the million dollar Google question is (Drumroll SFX)
Recently I have provided a voiceover for a new Channel 5 mini series called Yorkshire: A Year In The Wild. It’s a beautiful look at the 4 different seasons in Britain’s biggest and of course I would say greatest county. You can hear me providing the Yorkshire voiceover for the competition promo which runs ahead of some of the commercial breaks. And hey if you enter then you too could find yourself VIP style in the ‘shire!
I was more than happy enough just to be nominated but to find myself a winner of this Vox Award was truly awesome. Over the past few years a lot of hard work has gone into what I do and it’s fantastic to be recognised, particularly in the field of Imaging and Promo voiceover which is the genre I have been involved in the longest.
My thanks must go to Chris & Mark at Devaweb who are a tremendous production company based in Manchester Media City as this is their award too.
